The Gender Monitoring Office in collaboration with Southern Province on Friday 24th March 2023 concluded gender accountability dialogues in Nyanza district that discussed the role of local leaders in promoting gender accountability and enhancing Gender Based Violence service delivery.
The dialogues were conducted in collaboration with the support of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and UN Women Rwanda.
The dialogue was attended by the Governor of Southern Province Mrs Kayitesi Alice, Chief Gender Monitor Mrs Rwabuhihi Rose, the Chief of the Office of Ombudsman of Rwanda Hon Nirere Madeleine, Mayor Nyanza District Mr Ntazinda Erasme, all Village leaders in Nyanza district, Executive secretaries of cells, executive secretaries of sectors, district officials, Provincial leaders, Security and Justice Organs at district Level, non-governmental institutions as well as faith-based organizations.
The dialogue has been an opportunity for local leaders to share experiences in promoting gender equality and accountability in their respective communities. They particularly disused effective ways to respond to GBV-related issues once they happen in their respective communities.
Local leaders are committed to being accountable for gender equality promotion and fighting gender-based violence and committed to reporting GBV cases once they happened
The Chief Gender Monitor Rose Rwabuhihi thanked local leaders and the leadership of Nyanza districts and the leadership of Southern Province for their commitment to promoting gender equality and fighting gender-based violence in order to ensure that men and women get equal rights and opportunities.
