As per the law N° 51/2007 of 20/09/2007 establishing the Gender Monitoring Office, the office has the mandate of advocating for the respect of gender equality principles at all levels. 

GMO advocacy bases on findings of different assessments and monitoring activities conducted at central and local government levels on various topics both for gender equality and fighting gender based violence.  To facilitate the advocacy, GMO produces advocacy materials and issue papers over the assessed topics, which provide detailed information over the issues and thus facilitate engagement of stakeholders and the public to address the indentified issues. 

In order to reach the aim, GMO works with a range of stakeholders including oversight institutions such as Parliament, National Human Rights Commission, as well as close stakeholders such as the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion, Justice institution and other gender machinery institutions.
